You may have heard earlier this month about the changes in the Spanish languages announced by the Royal Spanish Academy. The latest edition of “Ortografía de la Real Academia Española” will published before Christmas.
Some letters of the alphabet received several names and the new Spelling proposes a single name for each letter: be to b, for v vee, double vee for w and e for y (i rather than Greek).

La nueva edición de la Ortografía de la Real Academia Española contiene novedades interesantes: la “y” se denominará “ye”, en América deberán dejar de llamar “be alta” y “v baja” a la “b” y la “v”, y “guión” y “truhán” pierden la tilde. Según informa el diario “El País”, la nueva Ortografía propone un solo nombre para cada letra: be para b; uve para v; doble uve para w; ye para y (en lugar de i griega).
